Ahhhh

Well this weekend really threw me off course but I am not gonna let that get me down I am just going to pick it back up and keep it going. I did manage to hit every single workout with the exception of Thursday's due to I was exhausted because of horrible sleep all week so that is something else I am working on. I am ready to keep it going and hit the gym today.

Mondays Meal

My meal plan is fairly basic most of the time with grilled chicken or steak and a lot of veggies and eggs. I do love to cook though so I will usually mix things up once or twice a week. Right now I am still trying to loose most of my body fat so I know I will see little to no muscle growth. I am eating 1850 calories a day which is about a pound a week of weight loss.T the moment I am trying not to eat any grains so I get all of my carbs from fruit and veggies which is OK with me. I am doing a basic 40/30/30 split with Protein/carbs/fat which is roughly 185g protein, 140g of carbs and 62 g of fat. So yesterday I had 1790 cals with about 200g protein, 105g carbs, and 67g of fat. I also take a multi-vitamin, fish oil, fiber and creatine everyday. This is what I ate:
BREAKFAST
  • 2 oz. Sirloin Steak
  • Banana
  • 2 hard boiled eggs
LUNCH
  • 12 oz of Tuna (that was hard to eat all of that never doing that again)
  • 1/2 of an Avocado
  • 6 oz. of Broccoli
Dinner - Wife made some awesome tacos.I did have one tortilla but I usually use rom
  •  4.8 oz. of BIG Shrimp
  • 3 leafs of Romaine
  • 1 LaToritlla factory Whole Wheat tortilla
  • 5 oz. 90/10 Ground Beef
  • 28g Shredded Colby Jack Cheese

The Start of it all

This is the start of my journey to a better body and healthier life style. It started back in 8th grade when I took my first weight lifting class where I found out how much I liked to lift weights and how good I actually was. Growing up, I was not very athletic which resulted in being over weight.

When I started lifting I started getting interested in bodybuilding and thought if I kept eating and lifting I would loose all my fat and get huge muscles. I was somewhat right except I was eating way too much of the wrong food. It wasn't until about a year ago that I even started to learn about calories, macros and other ways to begin a healthy lifestyle. All I knew was what I was seeing. I was eating a lot which was making me bigger but never had the body I wanted or know that I can have. I also never did any sort of cardio. I couldn't jog one full lap around our track without feeling like I was gonna die. Junior year of high school I was in a car accident which messed up my knee so I was afraid of doing too much on squats (bad idea) so I just stuck to upper body exercises like bench presses and curls. My first dead lift I ever did was at age 24 and the closest I had ever come before was a clean or heavy shrugs.

By the time I graduated I had started to jog more and lost a little bit of the belly fat but still had no visible abs by a long shot. I was 5' 9" and weighed 198 lbs. I was able to bench press 300 lbs. for a one rep max but was only squatting 315 lbs. so I was very out of whack with my lifting priorities.

Once I left high school I didn't go right into college. I worked at a car shop for the summer and into December. While working I would eat fast food everyday for lunch and stopped working out all together. At my heaviest, I weighed in at about 240 lbs. and was weaker than ever.  I started to eat better but still didn't work out. I ended up dropping about 20 lbs. but that wasn't a noticeable change.

When I started college, I moved into a house with all my older friends.  This of course lead to a lot of beer and junk food. I looked and felt horrible. This is when I met my now wife and my eating just got worse!  We were always going out to eat or making frozen pizza or mac and cheese being 2 poor college kids until one day we both decided to join the local community center and start eating better. We did what we could with what we had which wasn't much so I was loosing weight again and was steadily around 205 - 215 just depending on the week. When I proposed to her it really got kicked into gear or so I thought. She joined weight watchers and I was only working out when I could between seeing her, being a full time student, working full time, and living on my own. This went on for about a year with hardly any changes . When she moved back home (3 hours away) she began student teaching. She also got really serious on weight watchers and did awesome. This got me motivated and I started the Men's Health diet and training program. I wasn't doing too bad on it and I actually dropped down to 199 at the lowest for a long time but I really fell off track right before and after the wedding where I jumped back up to 217 lbs..

After getting back from our honey moon I was having stomach issues from some of the food I was eating on the honey moon and the doctor told me that I had higher than normal blood pressure because of my weight. This kicked my butt in gear along with my wife wanting to train for a 5k. We started training for the 5k and I was doing OK on it. My diet still wasn't what it should be but I just thought 'oh well'.

This is when my wife showed me a picture she took at a Cardinals game with me in the background. All I could think about was how huge my gut looked like... It was like the elephant in the picture. That was the start of me nailing down my diet after doing a lot of research. I found the site called reddit where I learned about calories and Macros. I also learned about lifting programs such SS and GSLP. After running my first 5k on Thanksgiving Day and a good 7 solid months of lifting 3 days a week I finally hit 175 lbs. Due to laziness and vacation and a holiday I am back up to 185 lbs. It isn't bad but not how I want to look. I will be posting pics of myself, my meals and anything else I find along the way to building myself. I hope that this blog can inspire, motivate, and give you an insight on how my journey.
